Head / Jaw

Headaches are a common health concern that can be extremely disruptive and debilitating.

It is estimated that between 75-90% of the population experience one or more headaches every year. Most of these will be benign and mildly annoying, however, some will be debilitating and have a significant impact on well-being.

What type of headache do you have?

There are different types of headaches including:

  • Tension headache
  • Migraine
  • Cluster headache

There are also secondary headaches which refer to headaches resulting from another disorder or trauma in the body. A typical type is secondary headache is one originating from the jaw, also known as TMJ dysfunction.

Chiropractic can assist in the treatment and management of headaches

At Simply Health, our chiropractors have post graduate training that enables them to be ideally qualified to treat and advise you on ways to manage your headaches.

Treatment for headaches will vary depending on the type of headache but may include:

  • Spinal adjustments and mobilisation
  • Soft tissue techniques – especially to the shoulders, neck and cranium
  • Postural correction exercises
  • Breathing exercises and relaxation techniques
  • Nutritional advice – especially reducing sugar intake and avoid headache triggers

Fortunately, very few headaches will be the result of a sinister cause and in these cases, our chiropractors are well trained to recognise the red flags and refer to a specialist physician appropriately.

Headaches are so common that most people think getting a headache is a normal part of everyday life. This is simply not true. Headaches are a sign that something is wrong. While some people may just pop a pill, we encourage addressing the cause and not just covering up the symptom.
