  • How does chiropractic care work?

Chiropractic is a natural form of health care that focuses on the relationship between the spine and the nervous system and how that relationship affects our health. Using spinal adjustments and other manual and soft tissue techniques, chiropractic corrects misalignments of the joints, improves muscle tone and stimulates nerve activity.

Chiropractic adjustments involve the application of a precise yet gentle force to a section of the spine that needs correction. This has been shown to reduce pain and improve spinal function.

Our team are highly skilled and experienced and use a range of techniques matched to your needs. Firmer adjustments are perfect for some people, while lower force adjustments are better suited to others. Adjustments can be done by hand, using hand-held instruments or with special adjusting tables. We work with spines of all ages from the very young to the very old.

  • Is chiropractic care safe?

Absolutely. Chiropractic care is considered a very low risk form of health care. Commonly used pain killers to treat back pain carry significantly greater risk.

You may experience some mild soreness after your first visit. This is like the post exercise soreness you may feel when you first return to exercise after a period of being inactive.

Importantly, chiropractic care is suitably modified to suit the age and presentation of the person under care. This means that young children and older adults can also benefit from care, with most people finding the experience of chiropractic care relaxing and enjoyable.

  • What can I expect during my first visit?

We like to be thorough in our approach and will take the time to listen to your concerns and understand your health goals.

Next, we perform a detailed assessment that will include postural, range of movement and muscle strength tests. We also use orthopaedic, neurological and special chiropractic tests to understand the real cause of your problem.

In some cases, we may need special tests, such as X-Rays or MRI scans, to confirm an accurate diagnosis.

You can usually expect treatment to start on your fist visit, because it is our number one priority to alleviate your pain and improve your wellbeing, as soon as possible.

We will plan out your care to help you get the most from your experience with us. As best we can, we will explain everything in advance.

  • How many sessions will I need?

This will depend on how serious your condition is and how long it has been present. Some people feel better after just 1 or 2 visits, but others may take much longer.

Prior to commencing your care, we will outline what you can expect, including how quickly you will likely see improvements and how much it will cost.

Some people are just looking for pain relief, while others have goals toward prevention and performance. To understand more, click here.

  • How long does it take to see results?

This will depend on how serious your condition is and how long it has been present.

Typically, we will recommend an initial block of care over a 2-4 week period. In most cases, people are already seeing improvements over this short time.

  • Does chiropractic care require a referral from a GP?

    No GP referral is required.

If some cases, when your presentation is complex (you have multiple health conditions) and chronic (it has been present for greater than 12 weeks) then you may qualify for Medicare payments for 5 chiropractic visits over 12 months. In this case a GP referral is required. If you think you may qualify, please talk to our staff or one of our chiropractors.

  • Will my insurance cover chiropractic services?

Yes, if you have Extras Cover that includes chiropractic care. You can claim your health insurance on the spot and simply pay the gap at your chiropractic visit.

We also see third party patients, including WorkCover, TAC, DVA and NDIS.

  • Can children receive chiropractic care?

Yes. Children can benefit from chiropractic care too.

Postural problems, scoliosis, sporting injuries, headaches, hip pain and back pain are just some of the reasons children see chiropractors.

Chiropractic care for children is different to that of adults, with more gentle techniques used. Children also present with different problems, some on which are only seen in younger people, such as Sever’s disease, Osgood-Schlatter disease and Perthes’ disease.
